The book I used for these pictures was my copy of The Complete Sherlock Holmes. My dad bought it for my birthday, after we had watched the BBC Sherlock series. I think it's made to look like an old book, with a hard cover and a design of a big key on the front. The edges of the pages have some kind of gold paint on them, so it shines when the book is closed. I haven't read very much of it, however, but it's interesting to see the connections between the stories in the books and the TV series.
I use this pair of headphones nearly every day when I come home. After school, I'll relax on my couch and listen to music with them on, sometimes while doing my homework. They're kind of clunky, but they're comfortable and I like the metallic blue color. They're pretty good at cutting off other sounds, so I'll often wear them to block out my sister and my noisy dogs. They also give off the impression that I don't want to be bothered when I'm wearing them, so I can get some time to myself.
This is the plastic clarinet I've had since I was 10, when I started playing it in 5th grade. Even though we bought it used and out of tune, I've played in concert for three years, and now in marching band. I have a wooden one that I use in concert now, but I'm more used to how this one feels. I've always found that it's easier play than heavy wooden one, and I generally think this one sounds better. I haven't used it since marching season ended, but I'm excited to use it again once band camp comes around this summer.
This is the sketchbook I've been using lately, and probably one of my favorite things in the world. Last Christmas, I ended up getting three sketchbooks, this being one of them and I'm unfortunately almost out of pages. I like because the pages are large, and there's a lot of room for sketching and finishing my best drawings. I'm never held back by lack of space, and some of my favorite art is in this one. The one problem that have with it is that it fell apart really easily, the cover ripping off and the cardboard backing getting worn down and falling off. Although, I guess those are signs of good use.
When I was younger, I was absolutely obsessed with horses. I would buy anything related to horses, and I would doodle them on my homework, which is basically how I got started drawing. That phase thankfully passed, and while I grew up, I didn't know what to do with this horse stuff. I ended up giving most of it away, but I still had these really nice figurines that my grandma bought for me, so I ended up keeping them. I never did anything, but then I realized they were a good subject for this project, so I feel a little less embarrassed about the total fascination I had with them when was younger.
